The journey continues
Well, life as an ER nurse after nursing school. Not much different! Ha ha ha. That might be because I slipped back into the "student role" seamlessly. I have completed nearly 1 month of my critical care for emergency nurses course and have already questioned my sanity for starting it so soon.
I have also been studying for my RN national licensing exam which will take place this Wednesday. So needless to say this past month has been intense keeping up with my studies and full time work. But I am daily reminded of how much work I put into getting to this place in my life and how much I love being a nurse. Even in the hustle and bustle of the ER and the often long night shifts I love what I do. I have had so many diverse patients and been able to be involved in some exciting traumas. Getting to be a part of the fine tuned orchestration of dealing with a traumatic injury is amazing. Everyone has a part to play and they play it well. It gives me hope that one day I too will be that good of a nurse!
I have, however, caught myself a couple times though thinking to myself that I should go ask "the nurse" remembering that I am the nurse! But I am privileged to be working in a very supportive environment with other nurses who are so knowledgeable and so willing to share their amazing knowledge with me. But I wont lie to you...working in the ER is a little scary as a new grad. There is so much to know and so much unknown about each patient that comes through the doors. But that is what I love about this job. I get to learn so many new things each day. I think I have a healthy fear of working in the ER but also the confidence in the knowledge I do have to work there. So, life goes on. I am working hard and finally getting paid to do so. Life is good!
